The president of Swami Shraddhanand College’s Student Union, Saurabh Mann is set to be removed from his post after Delhi University prima facie found his admission to be “wrong and mala fide”. A complaint was filed by his opponent, both in the University and Delhi High Court, alleging that Mann had been granted admission despite “not meeting the cut-off”.
Saurabh,a student of 2nd year in BA (Programme) course won the post of student union President in 2017.Sanjay,who came second, filed a complaint challenging both his admission and election to the post.Sanjay alleged that Mann was given admission to the BA (Programme) course, which had a cut-off of 74 percent in the college even though he scored only 52 percent in class XIIth exams.
On 8th January 2018,Dr. Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) wrote to the college principal saying Mann should be “immediately suspended”.He advised the Principal to enquire if any more such admissions were made in college during 2016-17 and 2017-18 and pending detailed enquiry must be completed in 10 days of the issuance of letter.
Talking to DU Express Sanjay said it was the case of ‘Fraud admission‘.He added that “He has filed a written complaint against Saurabh Mann during nomination for student union elections in 2017 to the college administration but the complaint wasn’t taken seriously by the college administration at that moment,so he was compelled to file a complaint against his opponent, both in University of Delhi and the Delhi High Court”.
Pawan Mann, student union President 2015-16 batch, and friend of Sanjay talking to DU Express said “He doubts that the admission of Saurabh Mann was a case of fraud. However,he denied that college involves in fraud admissions.”He is happy with court’s decision..He also claimed that he had talked with P.V. Khatri, acting Principal of the college and Mr.Khatri Promised him of taking a strong action regarding this case.He also claimed that the administration promised him to make Sanjay as President of the Union and will give letter of Presidential post in 2 days time as he came second for the post of president in student union election 2017.
DU Express got access to the letter issued by Dr Gurpreet Singh Tuteja,Deputy Dean Students Welfare to the college Principal. Here is the copy of that letter.
DU Express tried contacting Saurabh Mann multiple times both by way of texts and calls but his phone was switched off.His friend Vipin Rana, talked to us and said “Proper suspension letter is still not issued by acting Principal”.He added that “College administration had given him admission,so he took the admission, and it is inappropriate to suspend him in second year, they must had taken the action at admission time if he his admission was wrong. They will go to court if Mann will be suspended”.
College Election Officer Suraj Mandal said Saurabh Mann would be removed from his post. “I will probably make the announcement on Monday that he will cease to remain President.Either the petitioner will be given a chance to become president or we will have a union without the President,” told Indian Express.
Asked if Mann had been suspended, acting principal P V Khatri told Indian Express “We are still enquiring as to how he was granted admission. There seems to be some issue related to his OBC category. If his admission is found to be incorrect,we will cancel it.”
