January, February,March – signifies the inevitable return of fests. Every college student knows the significance of these three months, they,of course, comprise the festival season. Tarang, Crossroads,Ullaas,Mecca,Reverie,Tempest are some of the noticeable college fests in Delhi University.
I came to Delhi University for the reputation it had (has) especially in context of Humanities courses. When I first joined classes,I saw my future classmates, seniors and super seniors talking about how much they looked forward to the fest season.
Honestly, I was pretty surprised at first.I knew that it wasn’t really my scene. But By the time my first fest season rolled around,I was excited and ready to dive in and document the festivities.
The season of fests is the harbinger of excitement among DU people. It brings along a plethora of fiestas along with season. Student Unions put in their best efforts to make winters in Delhi entertaining and exciting. All those celebrity performances, parties, competitions and hanging out with friends can also make you smarter, confident and all of this accounts for a break from the daily discipline routine of college everyday.Once set in college campus you are involved with canteen, teachers, lectures, friends, foes, etc. However when comes the fest season, this fun quotient brims with the excitement of organizing their annual fests.
In college, it is very important to socialize and to meet the right kind of people. And there’s no better place for this than a college fest because yes we deserve a break from studies/internals /attendance or just any other ordinary day.Fests push you to socialize with people and also you get to try on so many activities and events, especially if it’s of your own college. One might discover some hidden talent or might figure out just where one’s heart lies or you might end up taking up a fun hobby.
College is a place where you build a path for your entire future, agreed but there’s so much more to it.College fests play a very important role in one’s college life because the main point always remains constant, the more you travel, the more you learn about people from different cultural backgrounds, the types of food and their preferred way to communicate.Despite the food, the cultural difference, the more hyper crowd, the buzzing EDM nights etc etc etc the list can go on and on you are given a well deserving break to explore the campus, people around or the happening city itself besides just watching the excellent showcase of performances.
The monotonous life cycle of a student, which mainly includes eating, sleeping, lectures, and repeating, ‘College Fests’ shows certain degree of fluctuations in the excitement levels of students. Why wouldn’t it? As the festive season slowly marches closer and closer with time, every student can taste the sweet scent of hard work they have put in to acquire a seat in Delhi University and be a part of all the fun and celebration in the next three years. Also taking part in college fests is of real utmost importance. Participate, organize! The experience one gets from managing so many people would definitely be worth it.
So as one’s freshman year keeping accomplishments and achievements aside, college festivals are about living the moment, enjoying yourself and creating memories that will last long after college days are over.
