Comedian Kunal Kamra was banned from 4 major Indian airlines post the heckling incident on an IndiGo flight bound for Lucknow, previously this week.
Kamra is a young Indian stand-up comedian known for his political comedy. Whereas, Arnab Goswami is known for his persuasive questioning as an interviewer/TV anchor.
Kamra released a video on his social media handles heckling Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami. This led to his entry to the no-fly list from 4 major airlines- IndiGo, Spicejet, Air India and GoAir.
Following this, Kamra moved a legal notice to IndiGo airlines question this ban. Kamra has also demanded that IndiGo revoke the 6-month flying ban on him, issue an unconditional apology and pay Rs 25 lakh in damages and legal costs.
The controversy led to a plethora of memes over various social media platforms. Serious opinion pieces determining whether the ban was justified or not as well as whether Kamra’s fundamental right to freedom was challenged also flooded the internet.
Athough Kamra’s fight against IndiGo is still on, he was spotted travelling via Vistara on February 1, 2020. He was greeted with faces who recognized him and some friendly smiles when he was aboard. While most of Kamra’s fanclub applauds, many leaders have raised their eyebrows against his actions. However, it is still uncertain who the real offender is: the airlines or the stand-up comedian?
