The mid semester break for all collegians is in the most literal sense, a ‘break’ from all the hustle and bustle of college life. It’s a much-needed respite from the internals and assignments which get on your nerves, the trauma of short attendance and very recently, filling up and submitting examination forms. Most students end up enumerating a productive ‘to-do list’ for this break but only a handful of us actually end up ticking the boxes.
This mid – sem break spanning 8 days, seems nothing short of a festive bonanza with a million opportunities to be productive and to chill. Here are 6 ways to make the most of this break-
- Take That One-Day Trip!
Remember how you delayed that much thought out summer trip with your friends, which ended up being scrapped? Now is the perfect time to revive that enthusiasm and take that trip! Plan a day out of intense fun to unconventional places in and around Delhi, like Agra, Manesar, or the same old, albeit fun, Murthal! Also, if you’re excited enough, take that multi-day stalled trip to Kasol, McLeodganj or the holy grail of travel enthusiasts, GOA!
- Get Your Official Documents In Order
Now is the perfect time to get your official government documents in check. Get everything, from your PAN Card, Passport, Aadhar Card, Pollution for your car, to most importantly, YOUR DRIVING LICENSE! We all know why I emphasized the last point. Get it done, or it’s gonna end up making a huge hole in your pocket.
- Study
Okay, don’t hate me, and please don’t cringe. I know this ‘break’ is not meant to hover around that dismal aura of studying, at all. But come on, don’t you think catching up on your syllabus, completing your assignments and ultimately setting your pace with the syllabus with so much free time at your disposal, is gonna do you good for the remaining semester? Think on it, don your nerd glasses and get going!
- Take Up A Hobby!
Remember buying that guitar in the summer of 2014, which you ‘played’ for a week and then left it in that dusty corner of the house? Remember that book you bought at the book fair or the vendors near your college at throw-away prices, only to stack them up with the other sizable pile of books in your cupboard? The free time you have at your disposal can be well utilized to kick start learning a new skill or pursuing a hobby. Learning to play a new instrument, driving, swimming, video/photo editing, cooking, a new language, exercising, dancing; the list is endless. There are innumerable new skills and hobbies to try in the summer break, which would give you something which you actually like doing, apart from studies. All it requires is a start.
- Take up courses online
Have you always wanted to learn something but couldn’t because of the meticulous college schedule? Well, it’s the perfect time for you to learn new things and concepts, which may even be unallied to your course syllabus, but might give you great insights to a different career field altogether. This is how you can explore your interests. You may even take up courses related to your own college course, and gain a more in-depth knowledge of the same. Websites like edX, Coursera and Udemy are great options for the same.
- Tidy Up- Your Room, Your Phone, Even Your Life
“A messy room equals a messy mind.”
A more opportune time couldn’t have come to tidy up your room, your cupboard, your phone gallery, or even your relationships. All the unkempt corners of your room only add up to your stress and angst, which make you unproductive for months to come. Why not clean it up once and for all? With this break, try resolving any issues you might have with your friends, girlfriend, boyfriend or any family members too. After all, mentally piled up issues can do you no good.
- Chill The F Out!
Ultimately, the break is meant for you to be able to take a breather from the frenetic routine of regular college. You’ve slogged the entire semester- be it the race for attendance, the impromptu society meetings, assignments, projects, internals, you’ve bore it all. Now is the time for you to take a break and chill. You can catch up with your old school buddies, have sleepovers, binge watch your favourite TV series and movies in one go, play video games, go on self dates, pursue your hobbies and on the whole, have fun. FINALLY, you get to have that long stalled “ME-time”, too! Have a go at it! After all, sometimes a lazy evening is the best kind.
