1493 – Last day of Expulsion of the Jews from Sicily.

1554 – Bayinnaung Kyawhtin Nawrahta, King of the Toungoo Dynasty of Burma was crowned today. He is known for having assembled the largest empire in the history of Southeast Asia.

1616 – Brazilian city Belém, also known as the ‘Metropolis of the Brazilian Amazon region’ was founded by Captain Major Francisco Branco.

1701 – Frisia & Groningen (Netherlands) begin use of the Gregorian calendar which is used by most of the world today.

1806 – French evacuate Vienna during the Napoleonic Wars.

1900 – Freeland colony that was based as a socialistic commune was founded in the USA.

1911 –  The University of the Philippines College of Law was formally established.

1915 –  US House of Representatives rejects Woman’s Suffrage Bill, thereby reserving their right to vote.

1948 – Gandhi fights against communal violence in Delhi by beginning his ‘final fast’ to restore peace.
