1724: Immanuel Kant’s birth

Immanuel Kant was born on this day at Königsberg, Prussia. Kant is one of the central figures in modern philosophy. He continues to have a huge influence in various fields of philosophy like metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy and aesthetics. He was one of the foremost thinkers of Enlightenment and Idealism.

1870: Lenin is born 

Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov, known as Lenin was born on this day in Simbirsk, Russia. He was the founder of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and leader of the Bolshevik Revolution. His corpse, which is preserved and embalmed rests in a mausoleum in Moscow’s Red Square.

1915: First military use of poison gas by Germany in World War

On this day, the German forces used more than 150 tons of lethal chlorine gas at Ypres, Belgium. This was the first major gas attack by Germans which killed more than 1,100 people and injured almost 7000.

1970: First Earth day is celebrated

It was after the massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969 that public consciousness for the environment emerged. Senator Gaylord Nelson took on the task of organising teach-ins on this day in various universities and colleges, which came to be known as Earth Day. Senator Nelson was then honoured with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for being the founder of Earth Day.

2019: Avenger’s: Endgame premiered at Los Angeles

A stellar addition to Phase 4 of Marvel Cinematic Universe and also the end of Infinity saga, Endgame was premiered in Los Angeles on this day. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Endgame went on to earn $1.2 billion worldwide in its opening weekend.
