1757: Battle of Plassey
The battle of Plassey was fought on 23rd June 1757 between the British East India Company and the Nawab of Bengal and his French allies. Under the leadership of Robert Clive the British defeated the Nawab and gained control over Bengal. The Battle was the start of nearly two centuries of British rule in India.

1980: Sanjay Gandhi dies
Sanjay Gandhi was an Indian politician and the son of Indira Gandhi. He died on 23rd June 1980 at the young age of 33 in a tragic plane crash. He was a key figure during the emergency and had survived 3 assassination attempts until he finally died in the plane crash. There are a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding his death.
2011: International Widow’s Day
Every year this day is celebrated as International Widow’s Day to draw attention to the voices and experiences of widows and to gather the support that they need. It was first observed in 2011 after the United Nations General Assembly unanimously decided to adopt International Widows Day as an annual global day of action in December 2010.
2013: India wins the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy
On this day in 2013, India defeated England by 5 runs to win the ICC Champions Trophy. The ICC Champions Trophy is an One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament and is considered as an important event in cricket, second only to the Cricket World Cup. India also became the only team after Australia to win the ICC Champions Trophy twice.
