1865 Alice in Wonderland published: Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland was published by Macmillan of London. It was illustrated by John Tenniel. Carroll or Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was an Oxford mathematician. He loved spending time with children. On the same day in 1862, he sent the book’s handwritten manuscript as a Christmas present to his 10-year-old muse, Alice Liddell.
1921 Verghese Kurien born: Founder of Amul, Kurien is known as the ‘Father of the White Revolution’ in India. The revolution transformed the country from an importer of dairy products to the world’s largest milk producer through a system of farmer cooperatives. He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for community leadership (1963) and the World Food Prize (1989).
1922 Howard Carter enters King Tut’s tomb: British archaeologists Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon were the first souls to enter King Tutankhamen’s tomb in more than 3,000 years. Inside, they discovered a collection of several thousand priceless objects, including a gold coffin containing the mummy of the teenage king. These treasures can now be found in the Cairo Museum.
1949 Indian Constitution Day: Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India. It came into effect on 26 January 1950.
1990 1st Billboard Music Awards: The first Billboard Music Awards were held in 1990 in Santa Monica, California on 26th November. Paul Shaffer and Morris Day hosted the event with Jerome Benton. Janet Jackson, MC Hammer and Phil Collins are some of the winners. The awards are given out annually by Billboard, a publication and music popularity chart covering the music business.Â
2018 Aquaman premiered in London: Directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, DC superhero film Aquaman premiered in London. It surpassed The Dark Knight Rises and became the highest-grossing film based on a DC Comics character. A sequel ‘Aquaman 2’ and a spin-off ‘The Trench’ are in development.Â
