1872 SUSAN B. ANTHONY, A WOMAN, WAS ARRESTED FOR VOTING
Susan B. Anthony a leader in the American women’s suffrage movement, cast a ballot in the presidential election, and she was later arrested for voting illegally and convicted in a trial she called “the greatest outrage history ever witnessed.”
1914 CONFLICT OF WORLD WAR BROADENED
France and Britain declared war on Turkey, this widened the conflict of the First World War. This decision would ultimately lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Ottomans, the Armenian Genocide, the dissolution of the empire, and the abolition of the Islamic Caliphate.
1930 SINCLAIR LEWIS BECAME FIRST WRITER FROM UNITED STATES TO WIN THE NOBEL PRIZE
Harry Sinclair Lewis was an American novelist, short story writer and playwright. In 1930, he became the first writer from the United States to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, which was awarded “for his vigorous and graphic art of description and his ability to create, with wit and humor, new types of characters.”
1935 THE GAME “MONOPOLY” WAS INTRODUCED FOR THE FIRST TIME
The Parker Brothers introduced the game of “Monopoly” for the first time in 1935. Today, Monopoly has become a part of international popular culture, having been licensed locally in more than 103 countries and printed in more than 37 languages.
1940 FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT BECAME PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE THIRD TIME
The United States re-elected FDR in 1940 for his third term, making him the only U.S. president to serve for more than two terms. Roosevelt is usually rated by scholars among the nation’s greatest presidents, after George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
1963 YOUNGEST ACTRESS TO WIN AN OSCAR, TATUM O’NEAL IS BORN
Tatum is the youngest actress to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 10 for her role Addie Loggins in the movie Paper Moon, she is also known for having been married to John McEnroe in 1986 who many consider one of the most gifted tennis players in modern times.
1988 FAMOUS INDIAN CRICKETER VIRAT KOHLI WAS BORN
Kohli, who is regarded as one of the best contemporary batsmen in the world and is the current captain of the Indian National Team, was born on 5th November in 1988.
2007 CHINA’S FIRST LUNAR SATELLITE LAUNCHED
As part of China’s Lunar Exploration Program “Change 1” enters lunar orbit and on November 26th begins sending back pictures of the Moon to Earth as part of the project’s goals to create three-dimensional images of the lunar surface.
2013 INDIA LAUNCHED ITS FIRST INTERPLANETARY SPACECRAFT
On 5th November The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan was launched in 2013 by the India Space Research Organization (ISRO) and has been orbiting the planet Mars since 24th September, 2014.
