November 25 marks the 329th (330th in a leap year) day of the year when only 36 days remain until the year ends.

HISTORICAL EVENTS:

1759- A fatal earthquake hit the Mediterranean and destroyed Beirut (the capital city of Lebanon), and Damascus (the capital city of Syria). The earthquake causes almost 30,000 to 40,000 deaths.

1783- The day when the last of the British troops signed the Treaty of Paris and left America: Popularly known as a day in the American Revolutionary War.

1863- Battle of Missionary Ridge in the American Civil War in Tennessee, on November 25 when Union forces led by General Ulysses S. Grant break the Siege of Chattanooga.

1963- John. F. Kennedy’s funeral takes place in Washington with over 80,000 mourners standing in the streets in silence. The service was held in St. Matthew’s Cathedral and the president was laid in the Arlington Cemetery with a 21 gun salute.

1975- Suriname gets Independence from the Netherlands on this day.

2009- Cyclone Nisha strikes Sri Lanka killing almost around 15 people and displacing 90,000 people and drenching the region with the highest rainfall in nine decades.
