Virtual Admission 2020 : Be careful with eligibility!

BE CAREFUL WITH THE CUTOFFS

The varsity will be announcing the first cutoff on October 12 and the virtual admission will begin. Principals from various DU colleges have advised aspirants to be extremely careful while calculating and checking their eligibility. The Coronavirus pandemic has shifted the admission process for Delhi University to online mode. Hence, changing colleges after realize of subsequent cutoffs may be risky for students.

Manoj Sinha, the principal of Aryabhatta College said “Suppose during the admissions, a college finds that a student is unfit for the course. Earlier, we used to send such students to other colleges but now the process won’t be so easy. There is not much provision of rectification.”

While the director of the university’s computer centre, Sanjeev Singh said, “Changing the course and college after the cutoff’s declaration will be allowed, but the risk will be high. The process is dynamic and there is a large number of applications for all courses and colleges. It may happen that the situation changes by the time the student cancels and takes admission to any other college. Colleges, too, need to be very careful while approving and cancelling any admission.”

He added: “The admission process is the same as last year but everything will be done online. The colleges will calculate the cutoff and the systems will provide them with assistance. The details of students and their documents will be available with the college. Once the colleges approve the admission, students will be able to pay the fees.”

NO PHYSICAL VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS 

Earlier, the physical verification of original documents was an important step in the admission procedure. However, due to the unique virtual admission this year, there will no physical verification.

ADMISSION ON PROVISIONAL BASIS

Sanjeev Singh also said “That is why the admission will be on a provisional basis. There is also a ruling of the Supreme Court, which states admission is provisional subject to the verification of documents till December 31.”

The verification of uploaded documents would not be a problem according to SP Agarwal, the principal of Ramanujan College. He said that most results are available digitally now. The new system would not be a hard one if the university portal works fine.

He stressed that the college IT system will have to be prepared and well equipped. Moreover, he said that the virtual admission would prove convenient for both students and parents.
