Women’s Development Cell,Shivaji College Organising Annual Gender Fair 2018

Women’s Development Cell of Shivaji College (University of Delhi) in collaboration with UN Women is organizing its annual Gender Fair on the 30th and 31st of January, 2018 to address the sensitive issues concerning women’s rights and empowerment in today’s society.

The event will be attended by dignitaries like Swati Maliwal(Chair Person of Delhi Commission for Women), Nishtha Satyam and Sanya Seth from UN Women, Kamla Bhasin from One Billion Rising among many others.Other collaborators for the event include several NGOs like One Billion Rising, Azad Foundation, and Men Engage.

The major highlight of the event will be the felicitation of Jijabai Achievers Awardees by WDC to celebrate and honor the contributions of those who fight all odds to uphold the dignity and integrity of women. WDC will also release its coffee table book that talks about the life journey of nine exceptional women with iconic vision, who endured adversity, fought misfortune, restructured themselves and transformed the core of society for good.

The two-day event will comprise a panel discussion titled ‘Intersectionality and Gender Inequality’ to discuss the fact that oppressive institutions like racism, sexism and gender discrimination do not work independently of each other. Rangoli making, slam poetry, debate competitions and flash mob performances on feminism and patriarchy will be some of the many engaging sessions organized by the students.

Chai pe charcha: Screening of few clips by filmmaker Sudipto Sen. This shall be followed by discussion over tea by RJ Divya and Sudipto Sen.

The Gender Fair will include several cultural performances by artists from across the country, including a stand-up performance by the celebrated comedian Vasu Primlani, a mesmerizing musical night by Indian Idol fame Mohit Chopra, theatre performance by Shilpi Marwaha in ‘A Woman Alone’, musical performance by Nari Gunjan Musical Band, first all-female band from Bihar.
