Amidst the fest season, and colleges dolling up their corridors boards; students of Jesus and Mary College have been biting their nails for the past one week. A final year B.A. Programme student, Ciyani Benny, has been reported missing with zero leads available. Ciyani Benny had gone to Kerala with her family on 10th September and returned on 18th September at 2 AM; and attended college at 11 AM on the same day. She spoke to her mother at 2:15 PM and since then there has been no news of her whereabouts.

Her parents filed a missing report at 10 PM and lodged an FIR for abduction at the Defence Colony Police Station. They also went to the DCP, Police Commissioner, Foreign Ministry and NIA but nothing was fruitful. They were later informed by unknown sources that she left for Abu Dhabi by a GoAir flight at 6:45 PM on the same day.

Confirmation of the same was done by police on 22nd September 2019, with the help of the police; parents also watched the CCTV footage at the metro as well as of the IGI Airport which showed that Ciyani was constantly getting instructions on her phone. She had apparently stopped using the phone with the usual SIM card and was using a different SIM card on the same phone or possibly using a new phone.

Her parents found out papers on which prayers and some other Arabic material was written, which hints at a probability of she being indoctrinated.Parents have reported this to the police, but allegedly there has been no action taken on it yet.

The fact that she is a 19 year old adult with full independent legal rights to act upon her own will is probably one reason why action isn’t being taken swiftly. The outstanding fact about this particular scenario however, is that if a 19 year old wants to get married to someone else, he/ she wouldn’t inaugurate such suspicious and shady steps.

Petition by college students to Chief Justice of India

The College girls have been found circulating pictures and doing the best they know – posting instagram stories and spreading whatsapp messages. Ciyani Benny when asked about has been portrayed as a sweet girl who would go above and beyond for her friends and close ones whenever they needed her. A petition for her under circulation clearly states – “We do not wish to violate her rights as an adult, but everything on record shows that she, an Indian national has been abducted by forces that have been creating havoc around the world. We plead for your help because only the Apex Court of our Country can order the Government for producing the person.”
