Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) through a circular dated 24 September, directed all faculties and departments of Delhi University to observe Vigilance Awareness Week from October 29 to November 3. The theme of this event is ‘Eradicate corruption – Build a new India’.
“Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week every year is part of the multi-pronged approach of the Commission where a key strategy is to encourage all stakeholders to collectively participate in the prevention of, and the fight against corruption and to raise public awareness regarding the existence, causes and gravity of and the threat posed by corruption” the circular stated.
CVC observes Vigilance Awareness Week every year during the week of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
DU has asked all stakeholders to report all activities undertaken to DU’s Vigilance Cell, which will later form a compiled report.
The Commission has asked all organisations to conduct activities in reference to the theme. It believes that these activities are essential for citizens and employees as they act as ‘sensitization programmes’. Therefore, the Commission has been advising all organizations as well as departments to identify and implement effective preventive measures to fight corruption by enhancing transparency and accountability in their functioning as it has been rightly said, “Power does not corrupt people, people corrupt power”.¬â€
