Now that our semesters are finally over and the winter break in full spring, one thing that has topped all our to-do lists is to sleep. Hit our sacks and doze off till we’ve made up for those¬†all-nighters¬†we pulled the night before the exam!

While there is some value in getting shuteye, there’s only so much rest necessary and, to be fair do you really want to miss out on all the fun and important things you could do?

Now, like what, you ask? Don’t worry! We won’t suggest you to exercise or clean that closet your mom’s been nudging you about since forever! I mean, come on! Who are we kidding here?

We’ve come up with some handy ideas and things you could do this winter.

1. Catch Up On Your Reading

Instead of constantly adding books to your “To – Read” shelf, try reading them too. Seriously, when was the last time you read a book not because you had to, but because you wanted to?

Pick a book. Grab your comforter. Cozy yourself into it. And let literature sweep you off to an altogether different world. There is nothing like chilly winters, hot chocolate and a good book!

2. Bake

Try your hand at baking. What better can get you in the festive mood than baking?

Bake cookies. Bake pies. Bake cakes. And feel the aroma of your baking set the ambience for this Christmas and New Year’s. Feast your sweet tooth and that of your friends and family. A little sharing never hurt anyone!

3. Spend Time With Your Family

I know the desperate wait of an outstation student to go back home catch up with their families. No matter how much you hate to admit it, you miss them and they miss you too. Home is where heart lies afterall! So this holiday, do spend time with your family. Decorate the Christmas tree with your little sister. Or dress up Santa for your little brother. Make memories.

4. Go Backpacking

Travelling, leaves you a lot more confident and happier. So, plan a budget. Pool in money. Put your travelling shoes on and travel. Travel – better, cheaper and longer!

Let the mountains of Nainital and Mussoorie work their magic on you. The beaches of Chennai and Mangalore with their blue waters and pretty lighthouses are the perfect getaway, if you’re a sea person.

Break free from the hibernation, this winter. And make it a December to remember!
