The pandemic situation faced by the country has already left many in tears. The atrocities faced by Delhi University students keep getting worse as the situation progresses. It has recently come to light that many landlords have been asking students to pay full rent for the lockdown period, whether they lived there or not. “It’s unfair to demand rent during these times specially since so many families are facing a financial crunch”, said Rahul, a student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College.
Almost all DU students had returned to their home towns for the mid-semester break in March. As things began to worsen, these students remained in their hometowns while many even migrated back later on, leaving their luggage in their respective PG rooms and hostels.
Facing pressure from such landlords, many students have decided to live with their friends or make the most of other living arrangements. Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) and 128 other representatives of DU Colleges have played requested the government to offer financial aid to students who are unable to pay rent.
