A privatized real estate firm has been aiming to construct a housing complex adjacent to the Delhi University North Campus. On the orders of the Supreme Court, a committee will be formed to examine the viability of erecting the high-rise building.
No interference was offered by the bench of Justices in the order issued by the National Green Tribunal which stops the builder from carrying out any construction in North Delhi on the grounds of protecting environmental laws.
Unhappy with the decision, the builder sought to challenge the order in the apex court. The University of Delhi and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation have two weeks to submit requisite documents in front of the committee and to file representatives.
The order by NGT was passed after hearing the plea of Delhi University. DU mentioned that creating a housing complex by Young Builders (P) Ltd. would be violating the Master Plan of Delhi 2021 and against public interest as well due to its closeness to the North Campus of the University.
The final report will be submitted within two months of the filing of representatives by the appellant, Delhi University, and DMRC.
