He also holds various other discoveries to his credit like variation of boiling points with atmospheric pressure. He was a physicist, inventor and scientific instrument maker.
1819: Queen Victoria was born
The Queen of the United Kingdom, Alexandrina Victoria was born on this day at the Kensington Palace, London. She ruled over the United Kingdom and Ireland from 1837 to 1901. She also held the title of the Empress of India from 1876 to 1901. The Victorian age is named after her.
1941: Bob Dylan was born
Robert Allen Zimmerman, Bob Dylan was born on this day in Minnesota, US. One of the most influential singer-songwriters of the 20th century, Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 2016. He has reinvented his style throughout his career while facing the ups and downs of his personal life. This day marks the 80th birthday of this remarkable star.
1954: Birth of Bachendri Pal
Bachendri Pal, who became the first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mt. Everest was born on this day at Nakuri. She achieved the remarkable feat in 1984 after which she led Various women expeditions to Mt. Everest, Ganges and a Himalayan transit.
2000: Israel ends its occupation of southern Lebanon
On this day in the year 2000, Israel withdrew its troops from its self-declared security zone in Southern Lebanon. The military occupation lasted for about 22 years.
2000: Majrooh Sultanpuri’s demise
It was on this day 21 years ago that India lost its magnificent lyricist and revolutionary poet. Majrooh Sultanpuri gave Bollywood its priceless hit songs that still haven’t left our minds. Be it ‘O mere dil ke chain’ or ‘Pehla Nasha, Pehla Khumar’, his 50-year long career holds a lot of love. He was arrested in 1951 for reciting a poem against the then Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru.
