Eleven months back all the central university vice-chancellors decided to install the national flag on their campuses.Delhi University became the first central university to hoist the monumental flagpole today on the occasion of 68th Republic Day.
“The flagpole has been installed at Delhi University’s Hansraj college. It is similar to the one installed in Connaught Place’s Central Park,” Shahnawaz Khan, CEO of Flag Foundation of India, told PTI.
The decision to install the national flag on campuses was taken on 18th February 2016 in a meeting which was chaired by then Human Resource Development Minister Mrs. Smriti Irani with the objective of “instilling nationalism and pride” in students.The decision came during the JNU anti national slogan controversy last year.
